    Norwegian Technology (NT) will through a pilot project with two oil operator companies finalize the development and demonstrate a novel and patented approach to offshore treatment of oil-contaminated drill cuttings. The innovation has the potential to provide significant cost savings for oil operator companies on the NCS compared to reinjection or transport onshore for treatment. The technology will also provide high value for drilling operations in areas without ship-to-shore and treatment infrastructures, or in case of a lack of reinjection formations. NT's solution is based on a series of novel features, providing high processing capacity and high oil separation catering to regulatory demands. By incorporating a framework for environmental risk assessment procedures as part of the demonstration project, NT seeks to anchor the approach not only with operator companies for validation and market access, but also with regulators to enable a replicable and fast roll-out after the project period. Novel engineering solutions and new environmental insights go hand-in-hand in the project. Building on previous R&D efforts to mature the technology and complete the R&D cycle, the project focuses heavily on full-scale testing in line with the desires of the oil operator companies.

    Produksjonsboring på store felter genererer avfallsvann med 4-20 m3 per time, og mest rasjonelle alternativet hittil har vært reinjisering i deponibrønner. Reinjisering medfører risiko for potensiell skade på produksjonsbrønnene som kan føre til lekkasje av avfallet inn i produksjonsbrønnen, noe som kan medfører redusert produktivitet. Det er også store kostnader forbundet med vedlikehold av deponibrønner. Membraner for vannbehandling er en annerkjent teknologi, men krevende å få til å fungere med akseptabel levetid under de driftsbetingelser som er offshore. Norwegian Technology vil i dette prosjektet frembringe ny membranteknologi som vil gi vesentlig forbedringer ift dagens tilgjengelige løsninger.

    Norwegian Technology AS has the ambition and know-how to develop the drill cuttings treatment which will be a competetive technology for offhore use. During previous years the company has identified the main energy-draining steps of microwave technology for drill cuttings treatment, and has developed an unique and promising solution which allows the treatment process to become more energy-efficient. Complementing its growing expertise within technologies for offshore waste management, Norwegian Technology is about to do the last steps towards creating state-of the art technology for offshore drill cuttings treatment. Extensive partner network of the company helps us drive successful collaboration and develop technology in accordance with the customer needs and expectations. Through this project Norwegian Technology wants to develop and present a safe, energy-saving and efficient technology, providing ROC< 0.05 %. The unit is to be compact and portable, can be easily transported to remote locations on- and offshore, and will satisfy offshore standards.
