    Visma has customers who struggle with challenging, complex, and time-consuming problems every single day. Our job is to find those customers, identify their problems and find a solution to them. By dedicating ourselves to the latest research within artificial intelligence, particularly machine learning, we seek to significantly improve the efficiency and operations of Visma's more than 1.5 million customers within both the private- and public sectors. We believe that the success of machine learning running in the real world requires deep knowledge within mathematics, domain knowledge of the subject at hand (business processes, in our case), and the interaction between humans and technology. That is why the members of this project, with deep mathematical and machine learning knowledge, team up with domain experts in Visma and users outside of Visma to develop the machine learning-based solutions that will make tomorrow much more efficient than today.

    Ettersom teknologi blir mer integrert og viktig i hverdagen vår, er det mer press på utviklere for å lage ny programvare raskere og med høyere kvalitet. Men denne raske utviklingen kan føre til noe som kalles "teknisk gjeld". Teknisk gjeld er som en snøball som stadig blir større og større, hvis den ikke blir adressert tidlig nok og på en riktig måte, ettersom flere og flere snarveier (både tilsiktede og utilsiktede) blir tatt under utviklingsprosessen. Dette kan skape problemer i det lange løp for personer som bruker programvaren, i form av ustabile tjenester og opplagte feil, og for selskapene som lager programvaren slik at det blir stadig vanskeligere å legge til nye funksjoner, forbedringer og holde tjenesten operativ. I følge tidligere studier kan teknisk gjeld forårsake et gjennomsnittlig produktivitetstap på 40% (90% i enkelte tilfeller), og potensielt koste verden billioner av dollar hvert år. For øyeblikket er det ikke mange gode måter for utviklere å holde styr på og redusere teknisk gjeld. Det er derfor prosjektet har som mål å hjelpe bedrifter med å proaktivt visualisere og håndtere teknisk gjeld. Vi vil samarbeide med bedrifter for å forstå deres spesifikke behov og bruk av teknologi, verktøy og bruke teorier fra vitenskapelig litteratur for å utvikle nye metoder og verktøy for å kontinuerlig overvåke og håndtere teknisk gjeld. Disse metodene og verktøyene vil bli prøvd ut og forbedret i industrien. Bedrifter som bruker disse metodene og eventuelle verktøy vil kunne oppnå en stor fordel i markedet. Dette prosjektet kan også føre til mer bærekraftige programvareutvikling.

    Resolve is an innovation hub in Visma that has a vision of revolutionising decision making in society. The purpose of what we do is to make people make better decisions faster by delivering optimization and machine learning (ML) cloud-services that are impactful and user-centred. We have customers who struggle with some of the most challenging and complex mission-critical problems every single day. The background for all of our projects is based on the fact that there are hundreds of thousands of people, working in multiple domains, industries and markets that daily, weekly and monthly are making decisions in order to solve complex problems. What categorises these decisions is that they are (1) hard to make, (2) they are time consuming and (3) there exist good solutions that are easy to miss. By dedicating ourselves to the latest research within artificial intelligence, particularly optimization and machine learning, Resolve solves these problems through user-centred software products applying artificial intelligence (AI), ML and optimization. We believe that the success of applied optimization and deep Machine Learning depends on domain knowledge and a deep understanding of the underlying business. That is why we operate in teams where each member takes part in the whole value chain of the project—from business process improvement to mathematical modeling, algorithm construction, full-stack development, and application hosting. In the creation of our optimization and machine learning products, we work closely together with the end users. In this way, the needs and preferences of our customers are integrated into the core of our solutions. This approach results in products the end users love to use.
