    sammendrag:
It is widely known that the maritime sector is one of the hardest to decarbonize, and the implementation of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in shipbuilding is crucial for assessing the environmental impact of marine technologies and identifying alternative low-carbon and zero-carbon fuels and solutions that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from vessels in a holistic manner. While focus until now have been on direct emissions in the use phase of a ship/vessel, there is increasing awareness that the ships construction, maintenance and end-of life may also contribute significantly to the overall environmental impact of a ship, especially when the direct emissions are reduced. This project aims to establish a LCA method for shipbuilding and involve several activities, including the development of a tailored methodology for LCA for shipdesigners/shipsbuilders, the identification and collection of relevant data on the environmental impacts The benefits of implementing LCA in shipbuilding are numerous. LCA can help shipbuilders develop more environmentally friendly vessels by providing insights into the environmental impact of different fuels and technologies . By assessing the entire life cycle of a vessel, from design, production, operation to end-use, LCA can provide insights into the vessels environmental impact. The development of a tailored methodology for LCA in shipbuilding can help compare the environmental impact of different fuels, vessels and technologies in a scientific and holistic manner The effective implementation of LCA in shipbuilding can help accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships The project will also involve raising awareness and understanding of LCA among stakeholders, including shipbuilders, shipowners and their supply chains.
