Software Asset Management or SAM is a business process especially found in large enterprises for effective management of software assets throughout the organization. One important aspect of SAM is to ensure efficient utilization of expensive software assets to remove unnecessary cost. One example of expensive software asset that needs a SAM process is software licenses. To effectively manage an organization's software assets, a SAM tool is needed. There is a number of available tools in the industry that aids software asset management. There are many fields where SAM is applied. In this project, we are focusing on SAM in the field of Engineering. Open iT is a leading provider of software solutions in SAM for Engineering. Open iT Software features in-depth metering and analysis of software applications and software licenses. Currently, most SAM solutions in the market are traditional software that is installed on-premise. There is a recent rise of new software delivery model called Software as a Service or SaaS. SaaS have major benefits in both business and the industry. SaaS allows an expensive software to be affordable to customers. This allows businesses to extend its market reach from large enterprise customers to small and medium businesses down to professional individuals. However, establishing and maintaining a successful SaaS solution is an expensive and difficult engineering challenge. This project aims to establish a full SaaS solution for Software Asset Management in the field of Engineering.

    sammendrag:
In the Software Asset Management (SAM) industry, existing tools were developed before the discoveries of the modern, state-of-the-art Data Science techniques and Machine Learning models. Therefore, we explore the use of these new techniques to solve existing SAM problems as well as open new possibilities to further advance it. First is the Predictive Analytics for SAM. Existing tools in the industry suffer when faulty data is discovered by users only long after it was collected. Predictive Analytics is designed to solve this problem by learning the natural trends in historical data to predict if a new measurement is faulty. This is an automated process so that it will notify the customers immediately when it discovers a fault. Apart from the anomaly detection, this will report about the future trend of the measurement over time. In the case of optimizing license usage for SAM, users suffer from manual configuration of existing tools. The Intelligent Active Use Classification will try to solve this issue using a Machine Learning model in Data Science that is trained to automatically configure the optimization tools instead of manual work done by the users. The third is the creation of Intelligent and Automatic Normalization of Software Details to automatically map software details into their respective complete information from a maintained software database. Currently, this is a manual labor of IT managers to do the mapping, and not all enterprises can do this since they do not have the required tools and database of software information. This project aims to develop a full solution and make it as standard and accessible to all enterprises in the SAM industry.

The project is about enhancing and improving data science and analysis processes. Through research and development, the output will be a new standard reporting contents. This will be integrated into Open iT's products and services. On improving the processes, the company's objective is to create an interface that interacts with the data. This will be the primary source of data for future analysis and data science projects. For further improvements, the company will also create new software modules that will perform steps that are common between different data science and analysis projects, as well as reporting processes. It will also include researching and exploring new types of reports for more effective cost and software asset optimization.

Software Asset Management (SAM) is a widely used business process used by a wide range of companies to manage IT assets throughout the organization. Its primary benefit is to achieve cost savings and reduce compliance risks associated with expensive software assets. SAM tools can help facilitate these processes and capabilities by automating tasks related to managing software. Open iT is a leading provider of software solutions in SAM. Open iT Software features in-depth metering and analysis of software applications and software licenses. With the increasing number of large enterprises practicing software asset management to manage their tens of thousands of IT software assets, existing SAM software solutions struggle in performance because of the increasing amount of data. This project is set up to solve this problem. The main goal is to implement a solution for processing substantial data for software asset management. Solving the critical bottlenecks in the network and data processing requires intensive research, experimentation, and a comprehensive modification of existing solutions. We believe that there are existing tools to be appropriately combined to help solve this problem. Open iT will take the initiative to solve this problem. The result of such a project is the advancement of the software asset management process in the industry. This will provide new and modern tools and new processes designed for the modern world in the SAM industry.
