   AGS are a key player in the field of seismic data acquisition with a track record for technological excellence and a proven passion for innovation. Through a new development project, AGS are seeking introduce an entirely new means by which to deploy survey instruments for seismic data acquisition. Seismic data acquisition is the most common geophysical technique applied in the search for potential hydro carbon deposits within the earth. Ocean bottom seismic (OBS) data acquisition is increasingly being used in search of oil and gas fields in areas not accessible by conventional steamers. Ocean bottom seismic nodes (OBN), acquisition units positioned on the seabed floor are used in data acquisition applications up to 3000m deep or, in applications where interconnecting ropes or cables are not permitted. Traditionally, OBNs are attached to a tow line and deployed manually from a vessel by a survey team. In most instances, the vessel must operate at reduced speeds in order to facilitate this deployment, which increases the time intensity of the survey, translating to high survey costs for the client. AGS are developing a highly innovative solution for the automation of the deployment and retrieval of these seismic nodes. Through this automation, the company are seeking to reduce the labour and time intensity of seismic surveys. Through extensive research and development, they are seeking to deliver a solution that will facilitate accurate deployment of OBN arrays on the seabed and through time reduction, facilitate an increase in the volume of data that can be acquired, dramatically improve decision making opportunities for their clients and reduce the environmental footprint of surveying activities.
