- sammendrag:
- This project is a development project of a electromagnetic source and sensor system integrated in subsea vehicles. The objectives of the project is to develop new and improved methodologies for UXO surveys, power cable and pipeline detection and positioning, decommissioning surveys and to measure induced polarisation in marine mineral deposits. The project aims at fully integrate an electromagnetic source and sensor system in subsea vehicles such as AUVs and/or ROVs, and to develop processing and inversion methods that can provide the detection of objects, positioning of buried power cables and pipelines and detect marine mineral deposits.

- sammendrag:
- Prior to installations of subsea power-cables and offshore windfarms, the areas must be cleared for unexploded ordnances (UXO) dumped during and after the world wars. The detection of UXOs is typically done by towing magnetometers behind a surface vessel with short sail line separations. These surveys are expensive and takes a long time to perform. The oil and gas industry has deployed buried pipelines that can be challenging to detect for inspections not knowing their accurate position. In this project we will develop an active CSEM source for AUV that will enabling cost-effective UXO survey and a mean to detect buried pipelines effectively. Using an active CSEM source, the UXO surveys can be performed upto eight times faster than conventional methods with magnetometers, and the technology will enable simultaneous inspection and positioning of buried pipelines upto four times faster than using ROV's.

- sammendrag:
- Subsea infrastructure are prone to corrosion, and a corrosion protection system with sacrificial anodes are being mounted onto the structures to prevent the infrastructure itself to be corroded. The corrosion system emits an electromagnetic field in the water that decreases in strength over time as the anodes are being sacrificed. The anode conditions can be indirectly measured by measuring the electromagnetic field in the water. In the current inspection market these measurements are being performed using large manned surface vessels equipped with ROV. In this project we aim at developing a method to perform measurements of the electromagnetic field using AUVs instead of ROVs and to develop methodologies to process and interpret the data into information about the remaining lifetime of the anodes. A successful development will enable use of AUVs for these inspections, which will significantly reduce the operational time, cost and carbon foot print compared to current ROV operations.

- sammendrag:
- The project is aimed to develop and demonstrate the capability to efficiently detect, delineate, and characterize deep-sea mineral deposits in various geological settings using AUV’s with a patent-pending technology – the Argeo high-energy CSEM system. The new fully autonomous acquisition technology is unique and tailored for DSM exploration needs, providing a cost-effective way to acquire high quality data with both sufficient coverage and high resolution while lowering the environmental impact of surveying compared to existing methods. The developed AUV-based CSEM method utilizes high contrast between electric conductivities of the ore deposit and the surrounding host rock enabling to identify and delineate DSM in diverse geological settings and map them in 3D.
