- New Amigos is most well-known for its innovative and award-winning board games that help users to learn each other’s language. Given the success of our board games, our auxiliary company AN Technologies AS is venturing into the digital realm and developing a language learning app that connects native speakers from across the globe to become friends and learn/practice a new language. These two projects will complement each other in that our collective goal is to improve/develop both the app and the boardgame as well as optimize how they are used to learn languages. The main challenge we face is known how to pair up language learners and outlining best practices for boardgame supervision/playing. We need to find out: - how to profile our boardgame players and what data to gather - what needs and wants our players have for social language learning experience - how to match players in terms of learning goals and language ability - how to define (un)desirable behaviour during gameplay - how to screen for and identify the (un)desirable behaviour - how to respond to (un)desirable behaviour and ensure a safe and conductive learning environment The findings from both the NA Technologies AS and New Amigos Norge projects will be used to create a match-making system and list of best practices that allows us to best pair up our players and enhance their learning experience and language acquisition. This project will open up many new opportunities. A successful app will build on the successes of our board game and provide access to those who are unable to use our board game. Being able to provide best practices instructions and improve learner group formation instructions will improve language learning. It will foster international friendships, promote cross-cultural understanding, provide teachers and other educators with an additional language learning tool, and promote language learning in an organic and social manner.
